Slackel Linux has announced the release of Slackel 8.0 Openbox, a lightweight distribution based on Slackware’s Current branch. This version ships with Linux Kernel 6.12.39 and comes with updated packages, Flatpak support, and new tools for creating portable installations.

- SLI (Slackel Live Installer) – install Slackel on an external USB device.
- Install‑upgrade‑kernel‑ext‑usb‑gtk – upgrade or install kernels on external installations.
