Antergos (formerly Cinnarch) was one of the most beloved Arch-based Linux distributions. Its goal was to deliver a modern, elegant, and powerful operating system that made Arch Linux accessible to users of all experience levels.

The project started in 2012 as Cinnarch, focusing exclusively on the Cinnamon desktop environment. In 2013, it evolved into Antergos, adopted GNOME as its default desktop, and expanded to offer multiple desktop environments through its signature Cnchi graphical installer.

Unlike traditional Arch Linux installations, Antergos provided an easy-to-use installation experience while retaining the flexibility and rolling-release nature of Arch Linux. Users could choose between Cinnamon, GNOME, KDE Plasma, MATE, Openbox, and XFCE during installation.

In May 2019, the original Antergos developers announced the end of the project due to a lack of available time to maintain it. The distribution was officially discontinued, bringing an end to one of the most influential beginner-friendly Arch derivatives.

In 2026, a community-driven revival named Antergos NeXT emerged with the aim of recreating the original Antergos experience using a modernized Cnchi installer and updated components. Since it is maintained by a different team, it should be considered a separate continuation project rather than the original Antergos distribution.
