Tenacity

Overview

Tenacity was created in 2021 by a group of Audacity contributors and users after Muse Group, which had recently taken over Audacity’s development, proposed adding telemetry and error-reporting features and considered relicensing the project. Tenacity forked from Audacity’s codebase at that point, keeping the GPL license and removing the disputed telemetry proposals, positioning itself as a privacy-first continuation of the classic Audacity experience.

Because it shares its origins with Audacity, Tenacity retains a very similar interface and core feature set — multitrack editing, effects, and broad format support — while development has focused on modernizing the codebase (moving toward a wxWidgets-free architecture) and adding features driven directly by community requests rather than a commercial parent organization.
